Competition brings out the <s>Worst</s> Best

This past month I had a opportunity of being a part of the Cut and Paste digital design competition.  In the motion design category of the event, 4 motion designs are prompted to each create a 15 second motion piece in 8 hours. We were given the theme of “ahead of its time” a week before the competition to practice and plan.  The whole experience was kind of a nerve-racking one.  I found myself playing around with different concepts and techniques all throughout the week, but when it finally came down to the day of the event, and I found myself sitting in front of my computer, I just worked.  Here is the result.

I think what I most enjoyed about this event/piece was that I played with a lot of techniques and ideas that I had never really explored much.  The final product was something that I wouldn’t usually make but something I got to really learn and play as I went.  And all in 8 hours.  It’s kind of amazing what a little extra pressure can yield.
